Built in 1530, Ritan Park is one of the oldest parks in Beijing. The
park is located amid the activity and bustle of Jianguomenwai and
serves as a peaceful hideaway for many in the area. Ritan means temple
of the sun and the park was originally built as an altar for ritual
sacrifice to the sun god. There is a restaurant in a pavilion style
structure in the park that is a pleasant resting spot.
