The capital of Hubei Province and one of the major cities in China,is composed of nine districts, two suburbs and two nearbycounties,with an area of 8467 sq km and a population of 7.28 million.Located in the central part of China, where the Yangtze River, the third biggest in the world meets its biggest tributary the Han River, Wuhan is divided by the two rivers into 3 towns, named Hankou, Hanyang and Wuchang. Being accessible by water and land, it has earned the reputation of "the thoroughfare to nine provinces" and functions as one of the few pivots of water, land, air, post and telecommunication.

Today, Wuhan has grown into a center of industry, finance, commerce, science and education in Central China. With the development of the Yangtze River Valley, Wuhan will in due time become an international metropolis producing steel and automobiles, prospering in commerce and finance and advanced in science and technology.

Wuhan was a consumption city with a weak industrial base before 1949. With construction of many years, it has become a comprehensive industrial base of a fairly large scale and a strong economy. The fixed industrial assets possessed by Wuhan rank the fourth among the major Chinese cities. There are now over 4,000 companies, including 193 large-and-medium-size enterprises. Backed by the pillar industries such as metallurgy, machinery and textile, Wuhan is well advanced in ship-building, chemicals, pharmaceutics, light industry, building materials, electronics, laser and communication.

Industries like telecom, electronic information, integration of machinery and photo-electronics, bio-engineering, pharmaceutics, and automobile begin to expand and become the new growth points Wuhan city. They have pushed forward the adjustment and optimization of industrial structure. Traditional industries have refreshed up and new industries grow up rapidly. iron & steel, automobile, machinery, and high-tech becomes the four economic pillars of the city. 25 companies represented by WISCO, YOFC, Shenlong Automobile, Wuhan Tobacco, Bingchuan, Taihe, RHK, and Jianming create out the famous brand products of Wuhan.

Wuhan, the "Homeland of White Clouds and Yellow Crane", is composed of three parts: Hankou, Hanyang and Wuchang. Not many people go out of their way to get to Wuhan, one of China's largest cities, but a lot of people pass through the place since it is the terminus of the Yangtze Ferries from Chongqing. Wuhan is now enjoying a boom in foreign and local investment that may help it match up with the sparkling cosmopolitan citadels of Nanjing and Shanghai.

However, there are many scenic spots and historical sites in Wuhan to visit, including the European-style buildings remained along the Yanjiang Street, Hongshan Square, Yellow Crane Tower with the 1,700 years history, one of the three famous towers in South China, the East Lake whose natural beauty rivals that of the West Lake in Hangzhou; the TV Tower on Tortoise Hill known as the highest mast of Asia; the ancient Guiyuan Temple, and the modern International Amusement Park.
