| Changbai Waterfall |
 |
Apart from Heavenly Lake (Tianchi), the main waterfall in Changbaishan
(Changbai pubu) probably exerts the strongest appeal for travelers
in this region. This is one of many waterfalls that lead off from
the lake, but this one, near the northern corner, is the largest and
most famous.
The falls are the terminus of the 1250 meter long Chengcuo River.
The falls are known for both their silvery sheen, and the mammoth
rock at the upper ledge that splits the flow into two.The water
flows over the edge, hits the pool 68 meters below, and the sound
of this can be heard for miles around. The pool below then splits
into two itself, and these are the source of both the Songhua and
Tumen Rivers.
The falls can be reached by heading 500m to the east of the carpark. |
