Hukou Waterfalls (Kettle Spout Falls) is located 50 kilometers to
the east of Yichuan County, adjacent to the Ji Country in Shanxi Province.
It is about 240 km from Yan'an city and is one of the most famous
waterfalls in China as well as one of the most impressive sights along
Yellow River.
When the Yellow River flow to the Hukou Mountain on the Shanxi-Shaanxi
border, flanked by mountains on both sides, its width was abruptly
narrowed down from 250 meters to 50 meters. The water falling down
from the narrow mouth into a big stone-strewn pool under it, forming
a scene which looks like the water pouring down from the mouth of
a water- flask. Hence its name.
The waterfall has a descent of 15-20 meters inthe low-water season,
but in the high-water season, the fall will be above 30 meters.
The waters burst into rapid torrents with the thunderous sound of
ten thousand horses galloping, forming a magnificent and breathtaking
view here. People visiting here all surprised by its majestic force. |
